HOUSTON – This November, Discovery Green kicks off Houston’s favorite holiday traditions with Frostival, an evening of winter revelry in the heart of downtown.
On Friday, November 17, Houstonians are invited to the 12-acre park to ice skate outdoors at Green Mountain Energy Ice, make snow angels in the Snow Zone, take pictures with their favorite Santa Claus including Houston’s own Pancho Claus and Black Santa, enjoy hip-hop dance performances from J-Dance Company, and check out spectacular art cars from The Orange Show. The evening continues through 10 p.m. with an ice-cold DJ set from DJ Mohawk Steve featuring nostalgic hip-hop and H-Town favorites. The fun begins at 5 p.m., with free ice skating for the first 50 people and Forever Green Members (Discovery Green) until 7 p.m. Performances begin at 6 p.m.
Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green is operated by Houston-based Ice Rink Events. The ice is created and maintained with equipment powered by 100 percent clean renewable energy provided by Green Mountain Energy and uses water recycled from Kinder Lake. Green Mountain Energy has been Discovery Green’s clean energy provider for 15 years, supporting the park’s commitment to being a good steward of the environment by reducing its overall carbon footprint. Since 1997, Green Mountain Energy customers have collectively avoided 107 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of planting more than 12.8 million trees.
“Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green is a beloved Houston holiday tradition, and we’re excited to present this wonderful feature for the seventh year in a row,” said Mark Parsons, vice president and general manager for Green Mountain Energy. “As the nation’s longest- serving renewable energy provider, we’re passionate about protecting the environment, and we’re so glad Discovery Green shares this commitment.”
Regular priced tickets for Green Mountain Energy Ice are $17 plus tax and include skate rentals. Sales go to support Discovery Green Conservancy, a nonprofit that maintains the park and provides free cultural programming. Tickets are on sale now at discoverygreen.com/ice. The skating rink is open daily through Sunday, January 28, 2024.
