Since their beginning in 2017 at Lamar High School, the young men of Zephyr Island have been performing and creating music. They’re musical influences are classic rock, but their sound is alternative rock with a bit of grunge; thus, they appeal to young and old. Recently they have been focused on recording six new songs. The current members are Diego Blazquez, Lincoln Coronado, Ian Alvarado-Mora, and Andrew Yeargain. They have played all around Houston, entertaining many with a unique sound in Houston’s underground.
Midnight Beverage – First Runner Up

Inspired by earlier pioneers of the genre (The Strokes) and more modern artists (Cage The Elephant), they take tried-and-true cornerstones and put their spin on them. With catchy guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, and raw, emotive vocals, Midnight Beverage crafts a refreshing take on a classic sound. Midnight Beverage consists of Aiden (vocals), Dakota (guitar), JD (guitar), Gerard (bass), and Dennis Townsend (drums).
Nick B – Second Runner Up
From the southeast side of Houston but really residing in all parts. Growing up without a father figure made him realize that nothing comes easy, and to get it, you have to work for it. He’s dropped three projects: Unexpected Lyricists, Unexpected Thoughts, and his latest The One Day Ep. From shows at different venues and concerts in SXSW, he tries to keep with a flow that’s always changing.
Villanueva y Su Combo Latino – Third Runner Up
The best Latin band in Houston, according to band member Jonathan Villanueva. The group provides a remarkable experience at every event. Houston people love their vibe and music we play. The band chose the name Villanueva y Su Combo Latino because its composed of people from all over Latin America (Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, El Salvador and more…)
