Jazzy Sundays in the Parks kicks off with custom-curated show of some of Houston’s most extraordinary talent performing an “Evolution of Jazz” showcase.
Get excited for this year’s fantastic series lineup by enjoying classics from all the groundbreaking eras of jazz: Ragtime, New Orleans Jazz, Big Band / Swing, Bebop, Contemporary and more! Enjoy timeless classics from the likes of Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday.
Your favorite jazz standards are performed by Houston musicians Kyle Turner (Sax), Phil Jones (Piano and Keys), Darrell Lavigne (Piano and Keys), AJ Moyler (Acoustic and Electric Bass), Sam Knight (Drums), Stephen Richard (Alto Sax), Andre Hayward (Trombone), Vincent Gross (Trumpet and Vocals), Ricky Davis (Vocals), Regina Hearne (Vocals) and Kanita Turner (Spoken Word). The event is curated by Dr. Ernest Walker and emceed by Donna Franklin and Funky Larry Jones of KTSU.
The annual Jazzy Sundays in the Parks celebrates Houston’s contributions to the vibrant and rich tradition of Jazz while honoring those who are preserving the artform. The series, made possible by a grant from Kinder Foundation, is produced by Discovery Green Conservancy in collaboration with Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Emancipation Park Conservancy.
The concerts will be held Sundays March 2, 9, 16 and 23 at Emancipation Park; April 6, 13, 20 and 27 at Discovery Green; May 11, 18, 25 and June 1 at the Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park. All concerts are held between 5 and 7 pm. All concerts are free and family friendly. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Arrive early to find your spot and enjoy a pop-up market.
