Parking

Several parking options – including metered street parking, parking garages and surface lots – are conveniently available to park visitors. See Downtown Houston’s interactive parking map

Metered Parking

Streets on the park’s perimeter and nearby streets offer metered parking. Parking meter stations on each block accept Visa/MasterCard and cash. Metered parking is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Accessible Parking

A citizen with a parking placard or veteran plate is allowed to park in a regular metered space without paying provided there are no other restrictions such as time restrictions by signage.

Surface Lots

Lots may be available around the perimeter of the park and on nearby streets. Rates vary and many accept Visa/MasterCard and cash.

Garage Parking

The closest garage, Avenida Central is located at 1002 Avenida de las Americas (713.853.8970 or 713.480.3837). Several other parking garages also offer convenient access to Discovery Green. Check Downtown Houston’s interactive parking map for a complete list of options.

Alternative Transportation

METRORail

Houston’s METRORail offers a fast and convenient way to travel through Downtown Houston, the Museum District, Texas Medical Center and Moody Park. The Green and Purple Lines connect the Theater District on the west side of Downtown to the Convention District (Discovery Green) on the east side of Downtown and all the way to the East End and the University of Houston main campus. When visiting Discovery Green, connect to the Green or Purple Line and get off at the Convention District stop. Houston B-Cycle

Explore Houston with one of its newest tourists features the B-Cycle. B-Cycle is a bike-sharing program that offers Houstonians and tourists an opportunity to ride through Houston. The program has B-stations all around Downtown Houston where you can check in and check out bikes. To check out a bike you may either sign up online, or at any B-station. The B-Stations closest to Discovery Green are located on Lamar & Crawford (by The Grove) and McKinney and Crawford (by The Marriott Marquis) For more information and membership rates please visit here.

General Park Information

Discovery Green is a 12-acre non-profit park and flexible entertainment space located in the heart of downtown Houston across Avenida de las Americas from the George R. Brown Convention Center and the Hilton Americas Hotel. It is wheelchair accessible. Nearby destinations include the Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, GreenStreet and Houston Center.

Although Discovery Green is a public space, it is privately managed by the Discovery Green Conservancy. Through the generosity of the public, donors and sponsors, the park provides a green experience to discover and play for people of all ages and walks of life. Learn more about Discovery Green’s mission and history.

Hours

Discovery Green is open daily (including holidays) from 6 am to 11 pm. (Extended summer hours 6am to 12am). Hours for events vary. Areas of the park may be closed occasionally for maintenance or private events. The Gateway Fountain is open daily from 9 am – 7 pm (weather permitting) (Summer hours 9am-9pm). The park office is open daily from 9 am – 6 pm. See park map. Park rules can be found here. 

Admission

Discovery Green is FREE, and the vast majority of the events in the park are also free. Activities that require a fee are clearly listed on this website. You are welcome to bring picnics, lawn chairs, blankets and even your dogs to the park. Please note that outside alcohol, glass containers, tables and pop up tents are prohibited. Food, beer and wine are available for purchase at The Lake House Cafe.

Information Center at the Alkek Building

Visit the park information center at the Alkek Building, located in the northwest corner of the park, near the Gateway Fountain on the Andrea and Bill White Promenade. Staff is available to answer questions about the park, programming or rentals. Look for staff wearing blue Ambassador shirts or visit the front office. 
 
Public restrooms are located on the south side of Alkek Building under the Stedman West Veranda near the playground. Additional restrooms are located in the Avenida Central Garage, located directly under Discovery Green under the Cullen Veranda (women’s only).
