Discovery Green, downtown Houston’s landmark urban park, is offering plenty of fun and free summertime programming the whole family will love.

Discovery Green’s summer programming schedule marks the return of family favorites, such as Park After Dark. The special event is perfect for visitors who wish to enjoy Discovery Green once temperatures drop. Guests can partake in extended hours at the Gateway Fountain, free line dancing classes led by former Houston Rockets Clutch City Dancer Gretchen “Coachgee” Jèan and choose from several lawn games and activities from the Rocket Dog. Families will also enjoy live music, vendors, food trucks and special park lighting.

“With school out for the summer, we are excited to welcome families and children of all ages to the park for the fun, free programming Discovery Green is known for,” said Kathryn Lott, president of Discovery Green Conservancy. “From splashing around the Gateway Fountain to enjoying an open-air movie night, Discovery Green offers a bounty of fun to explore.”

From a free screening of the 1994 classic, The Lion King, to the park’s signature, open-air market, Flea by Night presented by Green Mountain Energy, there’s no shortage of fun this summer.

The summer season also brings the return of Fitness in the Park. Take part in any of the four weekly classes, including a Saturday morning Hatha flow, a Monday evening class led entirely in Spanish, a gentle flow and sound meditation on Tuesday evenings and bilingual Zumba on Wednesdays.

In addition to the Gateway Fountain and its 14-foot high arcing jets, Discovery Green is home to the John P. McGovern Playground, where the little ones can climb, slide and play with friends.

Discovery Green is located at 1500 McKinney St. (Houston, TX 77010). Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. All events are subject to change. Please refer to discoverygreen.com for updates.
