WHAT: Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Dance Students will perform a dance inspired by Discovery Green’s winter art installation, Solstice, by Studio Iregular. Guest choreographer, Laura Gutierrez, worked with students to create a new piece responding to the site. Gutierrez is a highly regarded dancer and choreographer with many works featuring non-traditional performance venues and site-specific pieces. In addition to the dancers, students from the creative writing department will provide free poetry busking on site.
Solstice by Studio Iregular is an interactive art installation comprised of a series of mirrored and LED arches that reflect the transformation of Earth when the sun is at its closest and furthest from the equator. It is on view at the Brown Promenade in Discovery Green through February 14, 2023.
Public art programming, inspired by Solstice, is sponsored by PNC Bank throughout the winter season and includes performances, cultural celebrations as well as family arts and crafts workshops. For more information and a complete list of programs visit www.discoverygreen.com/solstice.
